Other Ways to Install Pencil2D

sudo pacman -S pencil2d
sudo apt-get install pencil2d
sudo dnf install Pencil2D

By default, this package uses ffmpeg-free, which has limited codec support. You can install OpenH264 to just add support for the AVC/H.264 codec, currently the most common video codec. If you want better support for this and other non-free codecs, you can use the RPM Fusion ffmpeg package.

Install:

flatpak install flathub org.pencil2d.Pencil2D

Run:

flatpak run org.pencil2d.Pencil2D

Package:

pkg install pencil2d

Port:

cd /usr/ports/graphics/pencil2d/ && make install clean

Troubleshooting

  • Windows: Qt5Widgets.dll was not found

    1. Right click on the file you just downloaded and select Extract All….
    2. Go to the location you just extract to, find pencil2d.exe and double click on it.

  • Windows: MSVCP140.dll is missing

    Double click and install vc_redist.x64.exe or vc_redist.x86.exe inside the Pencil2D folder.

  • Windows: api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing

    Download and install Windows update KB3118401 as detailed in this support article.

  • macOS: Pencil2D can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer

    Right click on the file and press Open.
